Today I had plans to meet a friend at noon. It's Wednesday, which is a day when I typically go on a run for exercise. I just couldn't run right when I woke up though, because I didn't want to be out of a state of meditation and it's a lot easier to be in a state of meditation while sitting cross-legged than while running. I couldn't run first because the whole time I was running I'd be in distraction mind. It's better to meditate first, then go on a run, because then it's easier to be in a state of meditation while you're running. I didn't run at all today though. Maybe I didn't have time to eat breakfast, meditate, and run before noon, or I for some reason chose to eat breakfast first thing after getting out of bed (as I usually do) and couldn't run with a full stomach. I think I didn't have time to run.
I did creativity with my friend. We started writing a screenplay. I was skeptical of the value of this, but actually I realized that it is kind of interesting what comes out. We took turns generating each little idea as the thing came together, so the result was something that no one human mind would have come up with. Writing that way puts you in constant contact with the unexpected. And the result is genuinely surprising to both people. That's a very precious thing.
I meditated again this evening. I did some writing. I did waste some time.
Today's entry was brought to you by the idea that I might, at the end of each day, write what I did and why, as a way of getting the way I think about life out of my head and into writing. I was just seeing how it goes. Maybe I'll try more in the future. I'm tired.
